Due to overwhelming demand for tickets to (Folk)lórica, our upcoming concert this September, we have decided to close online ticket pre-orders to ensure that enough tickets will be available at the door for members of the public. However, if you are still interested in attending our concert, you are encouraged to collect you free tickets at the door at 5pm on 12th September (our concert date). We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Last Wednesday, we invited our newly-recruited members to a welcome tea at the CFA Auditorium; the evening’s programme included a short presentation on the NUS Symphony Orchestra, followed by a catered dinner and rehearsals for our upcoming September concert, (Folk)lórica.

The NUS Symphony Orchestra is proud to present (Folk)lórica, an evening of orchestral favourites inspired by folk tunes, dances and themes, from the seductive choruses of Bizet’s popular Carmen to the familiar melodies of Grieg’s Peer Gynt.

Free admission. Tickets will be available at the door from 5pm onwards.

(Folk)lórica is part of the NUS Symphony Orchestra’s series of outreach concerts intended at introducing the public to the lighter side of classical music.

NUSSO Performs Symphonie Fantastique

The NUS Symphony Orchestra performs the 4th movement of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, ‘Marche au supplice’ (March to the Scaffold), at the Victoria Concert Hall, 19th March 2010, conducted by Maestro Lim Soon Lee. The video and audio recordings are courtesy of Vocare Media and Pavane Studios respectively.

CFA House Party 2010

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the freshies who have signed up with us over the last couple of days during the NUS Matriculation Fair. Please note that if you are interested in joining the NUS Symphony Orchestra and did not sign up at our booth during the Matriculation Fair, you are still welcome to sign up with us using our online audition form.

In the meantime, we would like to invite you to come down for the Music Showcase at the CFA House Party. Members of our orchestra will be performing Singaporean composer Kelly Tang’s Sketches of Singapore, an orchestral work that incorporates themes from familiar local tunes in an exciting and colourful medley in celebration of Singapore’s National Day.

Matriculation Fair Decoration

Yesterday, members of the NUSSO exco had an absolutely wonderful time decorating and setting up our booth in preparation for this year’s NUS matriculation fair. The NUS matriculation fair will take place on 22nd, 23rd, 26th and 27th July, and we hope to recruit as many freshmen as we can into our NUSSO family.

Kite Flying at Marina Barrage

On 26th June 2010, NUSSO members went for an outing at Marina Barrage for an afternoon of fun, food and kite flying, followed by dinner and ice-cream at Marina Square!
